It's hard to come by a place to hunt wild pheasant and quail on the Western Slope of Colorado, especially on public land. A few places still exist. This is the place where my dog Porter, now almost five, and I got our first rooster over a point when he was just nine months old. It was just us back then. I've since shared my little hot spot with my husband, Glenn, and my youngest dog, Elsie. It's not to say it's a complete secret. Like any hard-to-come-by spot in Colorado, for every one person keeping it a secret, there are two more who just found out about it. Nonetheless, any hunt with your best friends, best dogs, and best guns in a beautiful place is to be treasured.

How I miss those days of chasing roosters in Eastern Oregon in my youth. I've not been pheasant hunting in something like ten years and I miss it sorely. Someday I'll be back at it - hopefully soon.

Yes indeed. Wild pheasants have become more difficult to find of late on public land in California as well. Each wild bird taken these days is truly a trophy. Congratulations to you for doing it in style -- beautiful gun, beautiful dog, beautiful place.

It's so nice to have you do all of the research for us. It makes our decision making so much easier!! Thanks.
