It's hard to come by a place to hunt wild pheasant and quail on the Western Slope of Colorado, especially on public land. A few places still exist. This is the place where my dog Porter, now almost five, and I got our first rooster over a point when he was just nine months old. It was just us back then. I've since shared my little hot spot with my husband, Glenn, and my youngest dog, Elsie. It's not to say it's a complete secret. Like any hard-to-come-by spot in Colorado, for every one person keeping it a secret, there are two more who just found out about it. Nonetheless, any hunt with your best friends, best dogs, and best guns in a beautiful place is to be treasured.
